Mythica: The Darkspore VFX Breakdown

We helped do some VFX shots for the feature film Mythica: The Darkspore. The work consisted of keying, compositing, tracking, paint-outs, rotoscoping, matte painting, and a couple of fluid (fire, smoke) sims. Here is a quick breakdown of some of the shots we worked on:

Nick Campbell Q&A

Nick Campbell from Greyscale Gorilla was kind enough to stop by the SLC Motion Graphics Meetup for a Q&A session. Super Giant Ninja was lucky enough to be able to film the session. Watch the video below:

Turbulence FD Ink/Smoke Trail Tutorial Part 2: Fluid Simulation

Part 2 of the ink/smoke trail tutorial is up now. In this tutorial we’ll use Turbulence FD to add an ink/smoke trail to the fish we rigged and animated in part one. Watch Turbulence FD Ink/Smoke Trail Tutorial Part 2: Fluid Simulation.

For the first part of the tutorial go to Turbulence FD Ink/Smoke Trail Tutorial Part 1: Rigging and Animating a Fish.

Turbulence FD Tests

If you guys haven’t seen them yet, these Turbulence FD test videos are really helpful to watch. Michael Szabo goes through some of the settings in Turbulence FD and explains the different effects they have on simulations. For example, how does turbulence differ from vorticity, and how do they each affect a fire simulation? A very nice explanation and great to see the effects visually as well.
